When we got here a few years ago, hubby needed to have a local driver's license. We had to convert his previous driver's license to a Philippine one. I really don't remember much how we did it but we had to renew it after two years. The two years expired last year and we just realized this month.
So when we got the chance, we beat it to the LTO. It turned out very fast and efficient.
1:30 - Headed to the LTO
started checking out the how-to on the wall outside the office
got the form from the small hut and filled it up
2:00 - secured the attachments: medical certificate and drug test cert both from nearby sources costing 200 and 300 respectively
2:30 - submitted the form and attachments to the customer service rep
2:45 - photo for the ID was taken digitally
3:00 - paid at the cashier (roughly around 493)
350 - renewal fee
75 - penalty (late renewal)
60.? - comp fee
3:30 - ID released
Off we go to get some ice cream after a sunny day outdoor. We were really surprised that it didn't take long to get do the renewal process. Last time I've heard, the office ran out of the forms, and even license plate for the motor vehicle registrations. Even our previous transactions has not been something to look forward to. It usually take a long time to get the papers. Requirement-wise or the offline-online thing with the LTO computer system. Luckily, things have since improved very well.
Ah! If only all government transactions will be like this. If only BI would have a more speedy system on their ACR Card release. I wonder if it would be possible for a courier service on ID delivery. Something like a NSO paper for delivery. That's for another post.
